Another Demure Evisceration...

TLASILA - Rab Noakes vs. Hair Police

In which our HP pals pit their just-released Empty Quarter platter against the celebrated Scot folkie's 1970 sophomore effort Do You See the Lights?

Happily, all concerned bleed copiously...

Best,

Antonioni...

Damn... We've lost another titan. Michelangelo Antonioni's films spoke to me - and legions of lovers of the other cinema - on so many levels. I sat awed through his devastating, justly praised signature trilogy (L'Avventura, La Notte, and L'eclisse), the astonishing Il Deserto Rosso (my favorite of his simultaneously enervating, exhilarating works), The Passenger, buttressed by one of Jack Nicholson's finest performances, the earlier, satisfyingly bleak Il Grido, the global box office hit Blow-Up, hell, even Zabriskie Point.

The New York Times' obit may be accessed here.

(Above, Monica Vitti, alienated, as usual, in Antonioni's splendid Il Deserto Rosso. Click for a larger image.)

You will be missed, Maestro.
